Cinemas are back! But if you’d rather not, here are some recent streaming beauties you may have missed
After a dizzying few months of blockbusters and high-quality indies pouring directly into our homes for first-run viewing, the pandemic streaming faucet has been somewhat shut off.
Although Warner Bros. and Disney are still releasing many features simultaneously on their home platforms, cinemas are once again the destination for big releases.
A Quiet Place II is breaking box office records. F9 is just around the corner. And that is just the start.
But if you still can’t get off your couch, don’t fear – streaming is here to stay and so are these recommendations. These are three of my favourite home releases for this fast-moving, and apparently quite vengeful, year:
Quirky / Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk as a NOBODY suburban dad who goes on a bone-crunching rampage is as fun as you would hope – and in a weeknight-friendly 90mins. Ridiculous and recommended revenging.

Spacey / If, like me, you love a good space slowburner, you will dig STOWAWAY – a satisfyingly-tense moral dilemma concept mixed in with some Gravity-esque thrills. The set-up isn’t quite watertight, but promising Brazilian director Joe Penna and an excellent cast nail it.
RT 76% | Netflix
Danish-y / A bearded Mads Mikkelsen – who else – is unrecognizable as a fearsome military operator out for revenge in RIDERS OF JUSTICE. A darkly comic thriller with style and depth, it alternates between violent action, mournful drama and silly gags – including a reveal that manages to be both utterly hilarious and devastating.
